The Civil War Skirmish Association - CWSA - is a chartered group of member clubs ("units") that compete with firearms typical of the 1860-1865 American Civil War era. Safe organized skirmishes (closely managed competetive live-fire target matches) are held at sanctioned gun range facilities. The CWSA National Board is elected from/by members of the individual units annually. Units are grouped by geographic regions, e.g. SCR -Southern California Region. Skirmishes typically occur monthly within each CWSA region, with a national match every year in late June. Location of the national rotates amongst the regions and was in Missouri in June 2005. A full unit consists of five or more members. Regions consist of a number of units that emulate uniforms, acoutrements & weapons utilized by actual units of the Civil War Period. Units take the name of the emulated unit, e.g. "4th. Tennessee" "6th. Penn" and the like, be they Southern or Northern units. Units elect their own leadership and other staff positions as needed. CWSA is unique in that it has no officer positions, all emulated ranks are typically Sergeant and below. CWSA members come from all walks of life. Membership in the NRA and/or own state rifle & pistol organizations is encouraged. Reenactors are welcome!
